We're moving again

We have been at Hatherton Marina since the New Year, and to be honest whilst a little basic it has been fine. The two biggest problems we faced were:- the upper basin wasn't designed for 57ft boats to be moored and there is no electricity.

So over the bank holiday weekend we will move to Otherton a few miles up the cut, I visited a few weeks ago and had a good walk around and a chat to a few people. I always like to chat to see how things are. Both of us love this stretch of the canal and we really enjoy just being on own and enjoying a quiet night....now that we wont have to turn off the batteries every time we leave the boat and knowing they will be on constant charge will make me much happier.

Fox and Anchor Family Day Out

At the moment our "Local" is the Fax and Anchor near Coven (pron Covern) It is a 40 min chug away at tick over. The pub does really nice food, a little pricey, but the setting and beer make up for it.

Yesterday I took my Mum, Sister in Law and her two beautiful children for a day trip, it has been an age since I had seen them.... my Niece Pippa 13 had a few goes at steering and really caught on until a boat came around the corner with a stag do on it full of pirates. The boat was adorned with a blow up doll in a nurses uniform as a Figure head on the front bows and each Pirate had a weapon. We were fired at by water pistols....It was very funny...they very nearly crashed though after out attack.

After lunch I put up the Hammock....Sorry Michelle...this went down so well that apart from Pirates I don't think anything else was part of Sam's convocation and both kids want one of these hammocks. Problem is one was from Brazil...and I have never seen one like it else where. Ooopsie. I have emailed a friend who is heading back this summer...

As we were heading back someone shouted you are the Blogger aren't you? guiltily I said yes...so thank you for reminding me to Blogg again.

A general update... We have been boating quite a few weekends, but this usually means just taking out around the corner and cooking a meal having a bottle or two of red, then mooring up again. We have taken a few longer trips out....one all the way to Kinver a 2 day trip that we took 5 days over and had a brilliant time. The Bratch Locks are the most amazing site ever I have never seen engineering like it.

Tiny Update

well we have been at the new mooring for a few months now, we are hoping to move again either down to the lower marina or to another marina with electricity. We have been out a few times and had few over nights just around the corner...and even saw an Otter!!!!

From Monday we are going to have a week away...heading towards Kidderminster all we want is peace and quiet, a few nice pubs and some BBQ's. I just love the idea of towpath BBQ's :-)

Our first outing this year

Saturday was one of those days...it was like a summer so we decided to have a little run out. We set off from Hatherton and off up Shroppie for a meander.... it was just wonderful, so peaceful. There is nowhere in the world I would rather be than on a narrow boat in the sunshine listening to birds and watching the world go by.

A weekend to Fradley

What an amazing weekend!!! Mrs EB had booked a couple of days off and after packing and getting ready then doing a food shop we got to the Marina around mid afternoon. Mrs EB unpacked I made TRB ready and we set off towards Rugely. It was then we remembered we had forgotten something foody so about 5pmish we stopped in Rugely and Mrs EB did a quick walk to Morrisons. I actually liked where we were and we decided to stay there for the night.

Later that evening The President and Kildare passed us...what a shear joy that was... we set off again the next morning, the was breaking through some light cloud and we just plodding along. Just after the Armitage Shanks factory an idiot who had clearly seen me decided to pull out making me throw TRB into reverse to stop me hitting him!!! he hadn't banked on there being a big queue at the locks into Fradley he wouldn't even look at me or acknowledge me!!

We got to Fradley about lunchtime and moored up just opposite the Waterways offices and stayed there until Sunday morning. what a great spot, we watched the world go by at various speeds!!! LOL moorings were busy and it was nice to enjoy a beer at The Swan and sit outside and just relax. Saturday I had to pop back to Sutton and some picked me up whilst Mrs EB did some cooking. We had invited a few friends to TRB for a little get together which was good fun. Though the batteries died at 9pm so I had to start the engine for while..sorry if you were near us!!!

Sunday morning I reversed into the lock (it wasn't pretty but I did it!!!) and we turned at the junction and headed back to Great Haywood...and just in time it would seem as there were 5 boats behind us waiting to go up the locks as entered. The trip back was just wonderful the sun shone the birds sang and we just plodded along... one of the best weekends of the year.

A tiny update

It's coming up to the last Bank Holiday of the year!! Crikey that has come around very quickly. We are planning on spending it on TRB, maybe even a nice short round trip. Not sure where too, but that doesn't matter we will have food and plenty of wine on board so a field and some peace and quiet.

It's IWA festival this weekend as well but I really don't fancy a trip to Nottingham just some peace and quiet and good company and good food and plenty to drink.
